An Egyptian goddess, the personification of the West (amenti), as well as the western areas where the sun sets and where the entrance to the underworld reputedly lies. Here she welcomes the deceased who enter the city of the dead.

It is also one of the names for the underworld, possibly meaning "the hidden place".
