by Micha F. Lindemans
Another name for the rice-goddess Sri. The name refers to the fertility of 'Ibu Pertiwi' ("Mother Earth"). At harvest time, the rice stalks are tied together in the middle, forming a womanly hourglass-shape, which the Balinese call 'Dewi Cili.' This hourglass image is used in many offerings, carvings, etc.
