The Japanese heavenly kings who guard the four cardinal directions. The Shi Tenno guard Japan against attacks by evil spirits. They are Jikoku (east), Komoku (south), Tamon (north), and Zocho (west). They are depicted as fierce-looking, fully armed and armored, loyal soldiers.
