Tukma is an important being in Juaneno Indian mythology. Also called Night, Tukma created the world, sea, animals, and plants. Originally the ocean was overcrowded until a fish dove down and brought up a huge black stone called "the tosaut." It emptied the bitter liquid from inside the stone into the ocean until it reached its present size. The tosaut belonged to Tukma, so he also had a part in creating the ocean. After the ocean was formed Tukma created the first man, Ehoni. Tukma created the world, sea, animals, and plants according to Juaneno Indian mythology.
