Mount Paektu

A sacred mountain in Korea, the highest point on the Korean Peninsula and bordering Chinese Manchuria, and the site where the Korean nation came into existence some five thousand years ago. The birth of Korea was accompanied by flashes of lightning and thunder, a mysterious sound, and a double rainbow.

Mount Paektu is also given as the official birthplace of Kim Jong Il by North Korea (although he was not even born in Korea, but in the Siberian city of Khabarovsk).
