maxpé

A Crow term for all things that are mysterious, unexplained, and unpredictable. It is commonly translated "medicine," and is given in greater or lesser degree to all things. Marehemmasheare, the wish or sleep dreams, were thought to possess minor maxpé power. Another class of dreams, the highest order, are the medicine dreams, Bashiammisheek (literally, "he has a medicine").
