Taime

by Gerald Musinsky

Taime is a Kiowa spirit symbolized by the Sun, represented by the Sun Dance.

According to one story, a man went out in search of food because the Kiowas were hungry and there was nothing left to eat. He had searched fruitlessly for four days when he came upon a canyon. Amidst thunder and lightning, a being appeared which had the feet of a deer and a body covered with feathers. It asked the man what it wanted, and the man answered that his people were hungry. The being said "Take me with you, and I will give whatever you want." From that day, Taime has belonged to the Kiowas.
