abyan

The abyan are "unbound spirits" as opposed to the tawagenen, "bound spirits." They are not attached to a single place. They are spirit guides, familiars, guardian spirits, tutelary spirits, etc. Some of the abyan are the umli and daligmata spirits.

They are also called baylan or bantey ("guide").
