Apemosyne

A princess of Crete, a daughter of Catreus. She and her brother Althaemenes traveled to Rhodes and settled there. The god Hermes developed a passion for her but was unable to catch her since she was swifter of foot than he. He laid several newly stripped hides along the road and when she returned from the spring she slipped and fell down. Hermes then laid with her and she became pregnant. When she told her brother what had happened, he thought that she made up the story about the god and kicked her to death.
