Glitnir
"Shining One." The hall of Forseti, the god of justice, who dwells there most of his days. It is enumerated among the abodes of the gods in Grímnismál:
- Glitnir is the tenth;
- it is on gold sustained,
- and eke with silver decked.
- There Forseti dwells
- throughout all time,
- and every strife allays.
Snorri Sturluson says in Gylfaginning that its walls and all the posts and pillars are of red gold, and that the roof is of silver. It is the best seat of judgment among gods and men and all who come to him with quarrels such as arise out of lawsuits return thence reconciled.
Glitnir also appears in the tenth-century skaldic poem Ynglingatal (7) but here its function is unclear.
