Layag and Bangay

Two spirits who are send as stars by Timanem to the people to tell them when to prepare the land for planting of crops.

The constellations layag, "a sail," and balangay, "a boat," appear in December and at that time the people go to the desired plot, cut the trees down, and when these are dry, fire them.
