"Lotus-eaters." In Homeric legend, a friendly people who ate of the lotus-tree. When Odysseus on his wanderings arrived in their lands, his companions ate the fruits, which made them forget their friends and their homes and lost all desire to return to their native lands, their only wish being to live in idleness.
