Shock

At Sheringham, a huge supernatural dog who comes out of the sea and runs along "Shock Lane" and up to some hill. Its arrival is a premonition of storm. It is headless but has great saucer eyes, and a white handkerchief tied over the place where his head should be. Probably a local variant of Black Shuck.
