Adamastor

The spirit of the Cape of Storm (Good Hope). He is described by Luis de Camoëns (1524-1580) in the Lusiads as a hideous phantom. He reputedly appeared to Vasco da Gama and foretold disaster to those who would attempt to voyage to India. Barreto mentions him as one of the giants who invaded heaven.
