Aspalis

A girl from Thessaly who became the object of attraction of the tyrant Meliteus. He ordered her brought to him, but she hanged herself instead. Her brother Astygites avenged her death. Aspalis' body mysteriously vanished and was replaced by a wooden statue, which subsequently became an object of cult. It was placed next to that of Artemis and was called Aspalis Ameilete Hekaerge.
