Gandreid

"Spirit's ride." The Wild Hunt of Norwegian folklore. The fields the spirits fly over will yield better crops in the ensuing year, and the wilder the rush of the spirits the better the results.

It is possibly the survival of an ancient feast of the dead which commemorates those who died during the previous year.
