Glasir

"Gleaming." A tree or grove which stands before the door of Valhalla, and whose leafage is all red gold:

Glasir stands
With golden leafage
Before the High God's halls.

Glasir is said to be the fairest known among gods and men. Snorri Sturluson in Skáldskaparmál says that gold is periphrased as Needles of Glasir or Leaves of Glasir. The skaldic poem Bjarkamál contains many terms for gold, and here too gold is called Glasir's bright Needles.
