Hræsvelgr

"Corpse-eater." A jötunn who sits in an eagle's guise at the northward end of heaven. The wind rises from under his wings when he stretches them:

Hræsvelg he is called,
who at the end of heaven sits,
a Jötun in an eagle's plumage:
from his wings comes,
it is said, the wind,
that over all men passes.

His name is found in the list of jötnar the Nafnaþulur section of Skáldskaparmál.
