Klaas Vaak

A gnome-like character from Dutch children folklore who puts them to sleep by sprinkling sand in their eyes. The grit in one's eyes upon waking is supposed to be his work. He is said to live on the moon and sends dreams. See also Sandman (German Das Sandmännchen).
