Maera

"Sparkling." The dog of Erigone, who stood howling over the body of her slain father Icarius, thus guiding her to the location where her father lay unburied. Upon discovery of the body she hanged herself, and was changed into the constellation Virgo. Maera was changed into the star Procyon (Προκύον), which rises in July, a little before the Dog Star, Sirius.
