pixie

A cheerful and rather mischievous fairy or elf. Pixies are often depicted with pointed ears and wearing long pointed hats. The pixies of Cornwall and Devon seem to have a good deal in common with Robin Goodfellow.

A proverb from the South of England (Devon) was The good horse must smell to a pixy, (i.e. know where the bog is).
