Simeon

"Hearing." The second son of Jacob by Leah.1 He was associated with Levi in the terrible act of vengeance against Hamor and the Shechemites for having defiled their sister Dinah.2 He was detained by Joseph in Egypt as a hostage.3 His father, when dying, pronounced a malediction against him.4

Simeon's tribe was small5 and their inheritance a scattered portion of Canaan.6
