Theritas

A surname of Ares, deriving from his nurse Thero, though Pausanias thinks that this name arose from the fierceness of the god. A sanctuary of Ares Theritas was located on the road from Sparta to Therapne. It contained a statue that the Dioscuri were said to have brought back with them from Colchis.
