Vár

"Pledge." A minor Norse goddess, found in the catalog of Ásynjur in Gylfaginning and the Nafnaþulur. Snorri Sturluson list her ninth among the goddesses:

The ninth is Vár: she harkens to the oaths and compacts made between men and women; wherefore such covenants are called 'vows.' She also takes vengeance on those who perjure themselves.

She is mentioned in a single stanza in the eddic poem Þrymskviða, where she is called upon by Þrymr, the king of the jötnar, to bless his union with Freyja (who is actually Thor disguised as Freyja).
