Virilis

"Of or belonging to a man." A surname of Fortuna as the goddess of women's happiness in married life. According to Ovid,1 women prayed to her that she might preserve their charms, and thus enable them to please their husbands. Her temple was, according to some,2 built by Ancus Martius or, according to others,3 by Servius Tullius after he had overcome the Etruscans. It stood near the Tiber in the eleventh region of the city.
