Virilis

"Of or belonging to a man." A surname of Fortuna as the goddess of women's happiness in married life. According to Ovid,¹ women prayed to her that she might preserve their charms, and thus enable them to please their husbands. Her temple was, according to some,² built by Ancus Martius or, according to others,³ by Servius Tullius after he had overcome the Etruscans. It stood near the Tiber in the eleventh region of the city.
