Hokioi

The name of an extinct or mythical bird: He Hokioi i runga, he Hokioi i runga, hu.1 It is described as a huge bird of prey, large as the moa. It had many-colored feathers, and a bunch of red feathers on its head. The South Island legends speak of a huge man-eating bird, the Hakuai.
