Hrímgerðr

"Frost-Gerd." The daughter of the jötunn Hati, attested in Helgakviða Hjörvarðssonar. She engages Helgi Hjörvarðsson and his companion Atli Indmundsson in a heated contest of flyting after Helgi had slain her father. She also boasts to be responsible for the deaths of the sons of a certain Hlövarð. They trade insults throughout the night and in the morning she is turned into stone:

It is now day, Hrimgerd!
and Atli has thee detained
to thy loss of life.
A ludicrous haven-mark
'twill, indeed, be,
where thou a stone-image standest.

The name appears in the list of troll-wives in the Nafnaþulur section of Skáldskaparmál.
