Huru-kareao

A tāniwha of Lake Taupō who reputedly was under the mana of certain women of Roto-aira. They were insulted by the people of Rotorua and invoked the aid of Huru-kareao and others of his kind, with the result that the pa of the offenders was sunk beneath the waters of the lake.
