Mae Phra Khongkha

The Thai goddess of the waters, rivers, streams, and canals. Her annual festival is Loi Krathong, held on the full moon night in the twelfth lunar month (November). According to popular belief, when a boy and a girl launch a krathong together they will be lovers either in this life or in the next. If they both launch a separate krathong, the longer the small boats float near each other the longer the couple will stay together (which is why some couples attach a piece of string between the boats).

Khongka is the Thai version of Gaṅgā, the personified Hindu goddess of the river Ganges.

A krathong (Thai กระทง) is a little lotus-shaped boat made of banana leaves and decorated with flowers, carrying a candle, incense sticks, and a coin.
