Kura-hau-pō
One of the great outrigger canoes in which the ancestors of the Māori people came from Hawaiki to New Zealand. It was built at the same time and place as the Arawa. In this canoe came the ancestors of Ngāti-apa, Ngāti-awa, Ngāti-ruanui and Ngāti-kahungunu. Ruatea was the chief.
