Philyra
An Oceanid, daughter of Oceanus. Cronus lay with her but Rhea caught him in the act, whereupon he changed himself into a stallion. Her son, Chiron, was born a centaur; half-man, half-horse. She dwelt with Chiron in a cave on Mount Pelion in Thessaly. Later she asked Zeus to change her into another form, and she was transformed into a tree, the linden.
Chiron is also called Philyreius (Φιλυρήϊος) and Philyrides (Φιλυρίδης) after her.
