Tū-wae-rore

"The foot caught in a trap." A goddess of trees. By Tāne she is the mother or tutelary deity of the kahika-tea, rimu, and tane-kaha trees.

The bark of the kahika-tea and ake-rau-tangi is made into a house in which Kāhukura, the god of the rainbow, may dwell.
