Valaskjálf
"Shelf of the Slain." A home that the Æsir built for themselves and which is thatched with sheer silver. It is enumerated among the abodes of the gods in Grímnismál:
- The third dwelling is,
- where the kind powers have
- with silver decked the hall;
- Valaskjalf 'tis called,
- which for himself acquired
- the Ás in days of old.
Snorri Sturluson assigns it to Odin, and says that in this hall is the Hliðskjálf, the high-seat of Odin.
