Álfheimr

"Elf-home." The home of the ljósálfar, the light elves, according to Gylfaginning. The other class of elves, the dark elves, called dökkálfar or svartálfar, are said to dwell underground (see Svartálfaheimr).

In Grímnismál, stanza 5, it is said that the gods once gave Álfheimr to Freyr as a tooth-gift, although nowhere else is there mention of a connection between Freyr and the álfar.

Álfheimr is listed among the nine worlds of Norse cosmology.
