Ananke

"Necessity." Ananke is the primeval goddess of necessity, of inevitability, of compulsion. She is mentioned as the daughter of Hydros and Gaea,1 and as the consort of Chronos whose serpentine tail is perpetually entwined with hers. Their offspring include Chaos, Aether, and Phanes2 or Erebus.3 Plato mentions her as the mother of the Moirae.4

The Romans called her Necessitas.
