Ārai-te-uru

One of the canoes in which the ancestors of the Māori people came from Hawaiki to New Zealand. This canoe remained at a place in the South Island called Matakaea. The chiefs were Kirikirikatata, Aroarokaehe, Mangaatua, etc. See further Arawa.
