Kaitangata

The son of the god Rehua. He was accidentally slain by the demigod Rupe (Māui-mua) in his search for his sister Hina. Te Pou-o-Whatitiri, the cause of Kaitangata's death, is one of the constellations. A ruddy glow in the sky is proverbially said to be the blood of Kaitangata (ka tuhi Kaitangata).
