Móðguðr

"War-frenzy." The maiden, presumably a jötunn, who guards the golden bridge Gjallarbrú. She is encountered by Hermóðr on his way to Hel to plead for Baldr's return. Móðguðr asks him his name and lineage, and tells him that the day before five companies of dead men had crossed the bridge to Hel. She says that he has not the color of dead men and asks him why he rides on the road to Hel. He answers that rides to Hel to seek out Baldr. When asked if she has seen Baldr, Móðguðr confirms that he too has ridden across Gjallarbrú, whereupon Hermóðr continues on his mission.
