Pani

"Besmeared." A divinity, the mother of the kumara, the sweet potato, who taught the sacred incantations regarding kumara. The plantations of sweet potatoes were called "The Stomach of Pani."

She was the wife of Māui-whare-kino (Māui of the evil house).
