Rua-kumea

"The pit which drags." One of the beings who are said to conduct the souls of the dead down the way called Tahekeroa, that leads to the underworld. It is this underworld that was known as kainga huna a Tāne, the hidden home of Tāne; it is where he retires to each evening to pass the night. Rua-kumea and Rua-toia are ancestors of Tāwhaki.
