Turehu

A race of pale spirit beings or fairies who live in Rangiawhiao. When Māui pulled up the North Island, he gave the land to the descendants of Kui. The Kui people were conquered and superseded by the Tutu-mai-ao, and these by the Tuerehu, who came from "the other side of the ocean." They in turn were dispossessed and conquered by the Māori.
