Bylgja

"To billow", "Big wave." A billow maiden, one of the nine daughters of the sea god Ægir and his wife Rán. She is attested in Skáldskaparmál, which quotes a stanza by the Icelandic skald Óttarr svarti:

Ye shear with shaven rudder
Billows moisty-deep; the broad sheet,
Which girls spun, on the mast-head
With the Roller's Reindeer sported.
